The Holiday season leaves us with even less time. Where does it all go? We follow the traditional decorating, baking, and gift giving routines that have been set by years of repetition. We still have the same responsibilities at work, but more to do elsewhere. In tough economic times how are you supposed to be jolly? What makes it all worth while? Why do we continue to torture ourselves if it is sooo much work? The answer is family.
Be it large or small good, bad, or indifferent we use this season to spend extra time with family members. We gather for pre holiday baking and tour each others homes festively decked out for the holidays. We laugh til we hurt; we listen to each others concerns and accomplishments, and watch out for each member’s welfare. The work involved in staying in touch is a small price for the larger picture. The people who touch our lives be it “blood kin” or not, are OUR families. The groups of friends and foes that gather during this season helps shape our coming year. Who will you see you may never again have opportunity to talk with in this life? Life is precious and fleeting……
Your formalwear family at the International Formalwear Association wishes you and yours the peace and joy to see and appreciate all of the things that make your part of the world a special place!
Happy Holidays To ALL!!

What Did you Buy This Season?
|
Like almost every business sector these days it is no surprise formal wear is struggling. Struggling yes, but not dead! The past selling season was hard on buyers and sellers. When the question was put to you the formalwear specialists and providers the answers were varied. It is not all doom and gloom! Many if not most operators have cut back considerably but they still purchased or are planning purchases.
Keep in mind when reading the responses not everyone answered EVERY question, so numbers vary. Three strong wholesalers answered the questions also and I have put them individually below: Read on and let us know what you think editor@formaltimes.com.

Schools cutting back winter formal events. Renters selecting more basic formal, fewer shoe rentals, long tie or Cumm/tie only instead of vest. Winter Formal review should give us a glimpse of Prom expectations.
We are busy planning for 2010 and thinking positive!
Buying smart and keeping track of what the brides are looking for works for us.
I have to have my samples to book these “hard to get” weddings…..
New Year, new outlook bookings are coming in.

We have Two Manufacturers who answered the questions
After Six: submitted by Jerry Mashman
Were sales this year: Greatly below Equal to or Better than Last year?
Advanced sales were better.
Does your company have a plan in effect for “in season” purchases?
Yes. Inventory levels are now being planned for demand during season.
What styles sold well for you this season?
El Reys, Black Falcons, Troys, Rhodes, Cypruses.
What message would you like buyers to know about your company, products or service?
Being somewhat of a "new" company since the mergers in July, we are making a total commitment to the FW business to be as responsive to our customers needs and demand as possible.
Did any sales surprise you this year? Larger, or smaller than you thought?
Yes. The response to our Radar and Satin vest programs, as well as our trouswer sales.
Add any comments about styles, price etc you would like passed along.
We are currently planning our Fall 2010 sales trip with two new exciting coats that we feel are going to be as good as the El Rey program.
