Welcome Back To Formal Times!

Have you made your buying decisions yet? Time is ticking down on when the manufacturers prefer to have all orders for timely spring delivery. We are excited to add In this issue  to have a few more pictures from Expo27 in Vegas click on any pictures in the newsletter to make them larger so you can see them better or make copies for yourself.  Also see what goes on at the Regional Shows all three that we just finished across the country. But first, help us out and let us know if you have an answer for the question of the week???

The Disappearance of the Disolving Thread!
How many of you out there still use the disolving thread to hem pants? The store I work in full time ran out of this thread during the summer and now I am getting inquires on the email. Does anyone still have a source? We always purchased ours from Lieberman’s and they informed us the company that always manufactured the item for them went out of business. This time saving feature for smaller stores who can not afford to keep deep enough inventory of pants in some styles has been a formalwear industry staple for all the years I remember. Does anyone have an answer?? Or a source that can still provide the item? I talked to a manufacturer of monofilament threads and he said he would look into it for us if the need was great enough. What do you think??? Contact me at editor@formaltimes.com

Regional Show Traffic
With buying decisions being made all across the country, the IFA sponsored three regional shows this past month and traffic was good. These shows offer specialists a smaller one on one venue with the manufacturers setting up in individual hotel rooms. This type of format gives each store owner the ability to walk from room to room and visit with their company rep and see the lines. Many operators like this more one on one approach to see the lines with less interference. It also provides great networking opportunities for everyone. We wish to thank all of our vendors for their continued support!

The East coast show was held in Piscataway NJ at an Embassy Suites on September 14th and 15th. This area with a great concentration of business owners is still a tough market to draw, yet traffic was better than expected. This regional show may see continued change and growth as the Expo is set to remain across the country in Vegas for the next few years. Positive feedback from all of the vendors brought about good commentary for the growth of next year’s show. We saw 25 specialists in attendance.

GLITS - The Midwest Show

GLITS the Midwest show held in Chicago/Lombard at the Embassy Suites was on September 21st and 22nd and was pretty much equal to past years. This area rich with smaller independent operators has made this show famous for its gatherings of specialists who come to the show stay and spend a good deal of time socializing and networking. We have always had a group dinner in the past and did not find the time to have that planned and included this year. I promise we will work hard to get that brought back next year. When so many specialists get rooms stay, talk and just hang out it changes the dynamics making more opportunity to find out what is working for everyone and what isn’t. There is a group of store owners who have a trade group among them and it is something that helps cement the bond of non-competing formal wear owners in the area.

West Coast Show

The West Coast show held in Buena Park CA at a Radisson Suites was on September 28th and 29th Beautiful sunny skies and an outside atrium made spending time visiting with the manufacturers and specialists great. This show which has always had a strong presence brought out many of the small 1 and 2 store operators along with many of the big players of the area. The turnout was less than expected, and you can never tell if the stock market or the proximity of the Expo affected it.

Expo 27 & Black Tie Encouraged Cocktail Party

We have not had a chance to put pictures in the newsletter from the Black tie cocktail party and know everyone would love to see how nice it was. The cocktail party brought out all of the beautiful people at Expo. You would think most everyone in this business has access to a great tuxedo and it was really nice to see everyone step up this year and show off a little. Please enjoy a few of the pictures and we will continue to add more next issue.
